We found the Summit Viper XLS to be the best all-round climbing treestand on the market for 2003. Summit's Viper XLS is one of the safest and most stable climbing stands available and it is perfect for both archery and gun hunting. The main difference you will notice when comparing the Viper to other stands is the use of a coated steel cable for the back support rather than traditional rigid bar.
The treestand and climber only weighs 19 pounds but it's 20" X 28.75" platform has a capacity of 300 pounds. We tested the stand on a variety of tree types including Oak's, Poplar, Walnut, and Hickory. The Viper worked well on all. However, scaly barked tree's tend to hang-up the cable causing excessive noise and movement while ascending and descending the tree.
The Viper does not require any pins or knobs so there nothing to loose.
