Our
Test Trips:
Flat Water: Our first flat water trip
with the Tuxedo was on Center Hill Lake in Middle Tennessee. The trip would total about 3.5
miles and would take us to the bottom of Burgess Falls the tallest of several
waterfalls in Burgess Falls State Park. The area is a great place for wildlife
viewing with relatively little boat traffic compared to other places on Center
Hill Lake. We had a great time on the trip. We were able to paddle into
an area where alligator gar were surfacing all around us sometimes within a
few feet of our boat. We also saw numerous birds including Great Blue Herons,
an immature Black-crowned Night Heron, a Yellow-billed Cockoo, and numerous
Belted King Fishers. It's amazing how close you can get to wildlife when they
don't feel as threatened as they would if you were in a motorized boat. We
ended up back at our truck about 4 hours latter having had a great trip.
Personally I can't think of a better way to spend some quality time with your
family or friends than a little flat water paddling.
River Paddling: For our river
paddling trip we decided to head to east Tennessee to The Great Smoky Mountain
National Park. I choose a section of the Little River that starts inside the
park and ends in the town of Townsend, Tennessee. This section of the river is
mild whitewater at most with a couple of rapids that might be class II. My
daughter had only paddled flat water prior to this trip so I thought the mild
whitewater sections and the flat water sections in between would be a great
first trip. I was right. We ended up running this section three times over our
three day camping trip. I didn't paddle the Tuxedo myself but paddled
alongside her in my kayak. I was impressed with my daughters ability to avoid
rocks as well as stay upright. The Tuxedo proved itself to be both stable and
easy to paddle once again.
I can recommend the Tuxedo kayak without hesitation
for both beginning and intermediate paddlers.
