We saw the Space Shuttle and the Space Station as it was flying over Cookeville! It wavery cool, and the kids were vere excited to see it (so was I)!

On December 20, 2006 it can be seen over Tennessee again. For Cookeville it can be seen for 4 minutes starting at 5:21pm (local time).

For sighting times near other cities in Tennessee you can check the following link.

http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/region.cgi?country=United_States&region=Tennessee

This is what you are seeing as it orbits above Tennessee.

To check for Florida try this link

1sTimeStar,

for Alaska dates and times check the following link. It looks like there are several sighting dates coming up depending on where in the state you are.

It looks like a VERY bright star traversing the sky. It's the brightest object in the sky and traveling at a pretty quick pace. It only takes 4 minutes to go from horizon to horizon. Last night it only took 3 minutes. For Cookeville viewers it will be coming from the West/Northwest.

Should be coming through here about the same time then (Oak Ridge). Hopefully it'll be dark enough and the clouds won't be an issue.

Todd, did you get to see it? Cloud cover was a problem here. They were solid about 10000 feet. Besides that I was looking for the thing at 520 est and not 520 cst......doh. I'm only about 30 miles east of the time zone change.

Looks like I am too much "on top of the world" and no sightings are available.

No it was to cloudy here as well. Or at least I thought. My daughter was at her grandmothers on the other side of town and they said they saw it through a break in the clouds, but for less than a minute.

Bump to the top...

The space station and shuttle were visible again tonight, and the Space Station will pass over Cookeville Tennessee again tomorrow June 22, 2007 at about 9:00 for anyone interested. This is very cool to see IMO.

I let my 11 year old stay up to watch the event last night. It was "far out" to see the ISS, shuttle and Venus in the same patch of sky at the same time. It doesn't happen very often so I let him stay up a ittle late for it.
The weather was perfect and there wasn't much moon. I'd would rate it about an 8 or 9 on the that's cool scale!
