| Pnina Ganzfried, 32, was rafting with companions in a livery raft approximately a mile below the Roebling Bridge just before 8 p.m. on the evening of July 14th. While she was sitting in the raft, wearing a life jacket, she experienced some type of seizure and fell backward into about a foot of water. Her companions pulled her back into the raft, but found that she was not breathing and had no pulse. The members of the group began CPR and attempted to call 911 with their cell phone. Due to limited cell phone access in the river corridor, the 911 dispatcher received only partial information about the location. NPS personnel from Upper Delaware and Delaware Water Gap were notified along with other first responders and canoe livery personnel. They were advised that the incident was between Cedar Rapids and Dingmans Bridge, a distance of about 36 miles. At about 8:15 p.m., EMS and rescue personnel were able to determine the location of the incident, arrive on scene, and transport Ganzfried to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis, New York, where she was pronounced dead. Rangers from Upper Delaware and New York State Police officers are continuing the investigation. |
