The search for an Australian hiker missing in eastern Utah’s rugged Uinta Mountains resumed at dawn Saturday.

A Duchesne County sheriff’s dispatcher said search and rescue crews scoured the High Line Trail into late Friday but found no trace of Eric Robinson, 63. He had left on what was to be a 100-mile trek on July 28, but was reported missing when he failed to show up last Sunday at the Mirror Lake trailhead.

Robinson was last seen carrying a red backpack. Friends describe him as an experienced outdoorsman.

Searchers resumed their search on foot and horseback, and a helicopter was once again expected to aid the effort from the air.

In a statement released earlier by the sheriff’s office, Devon McClive, a friend and hiking companion of Robinson’s, said members of the missing hiker’s family have arrived in Utah to assist in the search as well.

McClive urged anyone hiking along the High Line Trail this weekend to keep an eye out for Robinson. “Any piece of information would be extremely useful as we have limited information so far. There will be photos at all the campgrounds in the area and we’ll be passing them out to hikers,” he said.
