Utah authorities are searching for a 12-year-old Boy Scout who disappeared in Ashley National Forest, Fox13Now.com reports.

Jared Ropelato was last seen hiking with his Scout troop Friday at Daggett Lake.

"Jared and his Scout troop went on a hike yesterday (Thursday) and they hiked up to the Daggett County Lake. They camped overnight, and were on an excursion when he became lost," Daggett County Sheriff's spokesperson Karen Peterson told the website.

Peterson says search and rescue crews and a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter are helping to look for the missing boy, but could face challenges since the area around the lake is heavily forested.

The Garrett Bardsley Foundation, which helps locate missing children, has also joined the search for Ropelato.

Utah authorities find a 12-year-old Boy Scout alive after he disappeared in Ashley National Forest Friday, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Jared Ropelato was reported missing from his Scout troop when he got lost during a camping trip at Daggett Lake.

"He had done some hiking but was in good condition. He told us that when night fell Friday he made himself a lean-to and settled in for the night. One of our EMTs checked him out and he's fine," Daggett County Sheriff's spokesperson Karen Peterson told the newspaper.

The boy was found nearly five miles from where he was last seen. Searchers on ATVs in the Long's Park canal area spotted him.

Nearly 300 people took part in the search for Ropelato.
