Search and rescue teams found the bodies of two Boulder hikers on Missouri Mountain today, according to a family member.

Boulder doctor Michael von Gortler, 53, and his daughter, 20-year-old University of Colorado student Makana von Gortler, were found dead, said the woman's aunt, Suzanne Kutz.

Von Gortler and his daughter were believed to have left on a day hike June 22 with the goal of climbing Missouri Mountain, a 14,000-foot peak near Buena Vista.

The pair was going to arrive back in Boulder on June 24, according to text messages Makana von Gortler's boyfriend received. The last time anyone heard from either was around midnight on June 22. Makana von Gortler's mother, Melani Holton, called the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday to report them missing.

Teams of dogs, technical climbers and helicopters have since been searching for them.

The father and daughter missing for more than a week in Colorado's back country before their bodies were discovered last week likely died from an accidental fall.

Chaffee County Coroner Randy Amettis said today that autopsies concluded Michael Von Gortler and his daughter, Makana, died from blunt-force trauma to the head and neck, likely from a fall.

"The injuries were consistent with an accident," Amettis said.

Amettis said it appears Robert Von Gortler, a 53-year-old doctor from Boulder, and 20-year-old Makana, a University of Colorado student, died on June 22, the day they set out to climb Missouri Mountain, near Buena Vista. Their bodies were discovered Saturday about 500 feet above the main trail.

The pair were supposed to return from their trip on June 24. They were officially reported missing on June 28. Search-and-rescue crews scoured the area for several days before a helicopter pilot spotted their bodies.
