Volunteers Needed for The Polar Express™ Children’s Holiday Train

Date: August 30, 2011

Brecksville, Ohio - The National Park Service at Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) are seeking volunteers to spread holiday cheer aboard The Polar Express™. This holiday program is based on Chris Van Allsburg's enchanting book The Polar Express™, a young boy's trip to the North Pole.

Children, clad in pajamas, board the train in Akron or Independence and travel through Cuyahoga Valley National Park to hear the story of The Polar Express™, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and sing carols on their way to the North Pole. Through the train's windows, children see holiday characters, the silhouettes of elves hard at work, and Santa!

Volunteers are needed to BE Santa, read the story, assist in creating a festive atmosphere in the car, serve cookies and hot cocoa, and more. Training will be provided. Be a part of this holiday tradition that creates lasting memories for children of northeast Ohio from Thursday, November 17 through Tuesday, December 20 (except November 23 and 24). For more information or to volunteer, contact Park Ranger Pamela Machuga at 330-657-1914 or e-mail us.

CVSR is a private sector, not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) volunteer supported organization operating in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park and is dedicated to the preservation of passenger rail transportation in Cuyahoga Valley and along the historic Ohio & Erie Canalway. CVSR is celebrating its 39th year of providing passenger rail service through the Cuyahoga Valley. Numerous excursions and special events are offered throughout the year including wine-tasting excursions, The Polar Express ™, Steam in the Valley and more. Tickets can be purchased in advance and more information gathered at www.CVSR.com .
