Mississippi Alligator Hunting Season Expands - Applications Now Accepted

JACKSON - Alligator hunting applications will be accepted June 1-15 for the 2012 alligator season on public waterways. Applications may be purchased only from the MDWFP website, www.mdwfp.com/draws . Applicants must be residents of Mississippi and at least 16 years of age.
For 2012, there are 6 public waterway zones with 810 total available alligator hunting permits. There is a $10 application fee per zone; interested hunters may apply for any or all zones. Applicants must use a credit card for payment and provide a valid email address when applying. All drawn applicants will be notified via email within 5 working days after the July 15 deadline.

Also for 28 open counties, applications will be accepted from June 1 - July 1 for private lands alligator hunting vouchers. Each property must have 20 acres of privately owned surface water. There is a limit of one application per property and special requirements must be met to qualify. For more information regarding private land applications visit www.mdwfp.com/alligator .

As in previous years, MDWFP requires that all persons selected for alligator hunting permits attend an alligator hunting training course to participate. Training course dates and locations are: Jones Junior College-August 4, Delta State University-August 11, and Roosevelt State Park-August 18.
