Tennessee - Jeff Shultz, age 44 of Clinton, died on Monday
(November 21, 2005) after falling from a treestand. Shultz was deer
hunting in a climbing treestand on the Sundquist Wildlife Management
Area in Campbell County at approximately 9:00 a.m. when the accident
occurred.
According to Wildlife Officer Ken Cutsinger, Shultz's stand was
approximately twenty feet off the ground and he was not using a
safety harness. According to witnesses, Shultz had a history of
health problems, but it is not known if that is the reason for the
fall or death.
Shultz was a graduate of TWRA's hunter education course. The body
was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital in LaFollette. An autopsy
will be performed to determine cause of death.
TWRA urges all hunters using elevated stands to wear a safety
harness while climbing to or from or hunting in the stand.
